CBSE New Notification: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)'s 10th and 12th board exams are set to begin on February 17. Meanwhile, the board has issued a new notification regarding the two-year exam system for class 10th

This time, CBSE will conduct two exams for Class 10. However, the board has made it clear that the first exam will be mandatory for all students. Some students had requested that if they were unable to appear for the first exam for some reason, they be allowed to take the second exam directly. The board has rejected this demand.

It is necessary to take the first exam

According to CBSE, the first 10th-grade exam is compulsory for all students. If a student fails three or more subjects in the first exam, they will not be allowed to appear for the second exam. The board also stated that the second exam is intended as a supplementary or improvement exam.

What happens if I don't take the first exam?

If a student does not appear in the first exam, they will be placed in the "Essential Repeat" category. Such students will only be eligible to appear in the main exam, scheduled for February next year. Students who fail the first exam will be able to appear in the second exam under the compartment category. CBSE has also clarified that no additional subjects can be taken after passing the 10th grade.

Who will get a chance in the second exam?

Students who pass the first exam can appear for the second exam to improve their scores in up to three core subjects: science, mathematics, social science, and languages.

CBSE has decided three categories for appearing in the second exam:

  • Improvement Category – Opportunity to improve marks in maximum three main subjects.
  • Compartment Category- Students who have failed or got compartment in the first examination.
  • Both compartment and improvement –  Students who fall in both the situations will also be allowed to appear in the second examination.

The board has made it clear that in the two-examination system, it is mandatory to appear in the first examination and the second examination will be only for improvement or compartment.
