Indian Air Force Involved In Operation Ganga To Rescue Indians Stranded In Ukraine


Pradeep Kumar's report- The central government has intensified the operation to rescue Indian citizens and students trapped in Ukraine. In the next three days, 26 flights will be operated for the return of Indians. Indian Air Force has joined Operation Ganga to evacuate Indian nationals from Ukraine. The C-17 Globemaster took off for Romania early this Wednesday. On Wednesday, a total of three C-17 Globemasters left to bring Indians.

Indian Air Force C-17 transport aircraft took off from Hindon Air Base in Ghaziabad to bring back Indian nationals from Ukraine. Along with food items, many medical supplies have also been sent in the plane. More than 15,000 Indian students are stranded in Ukraine amid the war between Russia and Ukraine. So far 1,554 Indians have been rescued through 8 flights from war-torn Ukraine.

According to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, so far 6 flights have left for India in the last 24 hours. While 1377 more Indian nationals have been brought back from Ukraine. Along with Air India, now other private airlines like SpiceJet, Indigo and Air India Express have also sent their aircraft to airlift Indians.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, 12 thousand Indian citizens have left Ukraine so far. Of the remaining 8,000 Indian nationals, 4,000 are in conflict zones and others have either reached or are reaching the western borders of Ukraine. According to the Foreign Secretary, there were about 20,000 Indian nationals in Ukraine when the first advisory was issued.

According to the Foreign Secretary, all Indian citizens have left the city since the issue of the advisory to leave Kyiv. The Foreign Secretary also informed that a flight carrying the first consignment of humanitarian aid, including medicines and medical, departed from Poland to Ukraine yesterday morning. Today another flight from Poland to Ukraine will carry the second consignment. Along with this, the Ministry of External Affairs has sent a team of officials of the Indian Mission in Moscow to the Russian border area adjoining Ukraine. The team is based in Belgard, Russia. This team is looking after the route determination, accommodation and transport arrangements for the evacuation of Indian nationals.

Meanwhile, Russian Ambassador to India Denis Alipov has said that we are in touch with Indian authorities for the stranded Indians in Kharkiv and other areas of Eastern Ukraine. We have received requests from India for emergency evacuation of all the people stranded there through the territory of Russia, which is under progress. With this, the Russian Ambassador has paid tribute to Indian student Naveen. The Russian ambassador assured the safety of the Indian students and said that the student's death would be investigated. This Indian student was killed in the Kharkiv bombing yesterday.

At the same time, the Indian Embassy in Warsaw, Poland has asked Indian citizens stranded in Ukraine to avoid crossing the Shehyni-Medyka border post. The embassy has said that there is already a crowd in this area. In a mandatory advisory to Indian citizens in Ukraine, the embassy said that Indians in Lviv and Ternopil and other places in western Ukraine can travel up to the Budomierz border post for early entry into Poland. Apart from this, Indians have been advised to travel south as an option, so that they can exit Ukraine via Hungary or Romania.
