  Manipur ethnic clashes:  The government of Manipur has banned the sharing of images and videos "depicting violent activities" that may aggravate the law-and-order situation in the northeastern state, which has been rocked by ethnic clashes since May. According to an order issued on Wednesday by Commissioner (Home) T Ranjit Singh on behalf of Governor Anusuiya Uikey, the decision was made as a "positive step towards restoring normalcy in the state." “Nobody shall be allowed to circulate/spread such videos/images/pictures through various social media platforms...on electronic equipment like tablet, computer, mobile phone etc and sending bulk SMS,” the order further read.   As Manipur sank deeper in ethnic violence, the Supreme Court on Monday announced setting up of a committee of three former women high court judges to look into relief and rehabilitation of those affected. A bench headed by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud said the committee will be headed by former Jammu and Kashmir High Court Chief Justice Gita Mittal and include Justices (retd) Shalini P Joshi and Asha Menon. The bench, also comprising Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, said the effort of the apex court is to restore a sense of confidence and faith in the rule of law in the state. It said besides the judicial panel that will oversee relief and rehabilitation efforts among other things, senior police officers will be asked to supervise the investigation in criminal cases to be probed by the state SITs. Police said the first arrested person was seen prominently directing the mob at B. Phainom village of Kangpokpi district in the video. All the four accused, who were allegedly part of a mob that disrobed and paraded two women in Manipur on May 4, were remanded to 11-day police custody on Friday, police said. The arrests were made on Thursday, a day after the 26-second video surfaced on July 19. The complaint in this connection was lodged around a month ago – June 21 – at Saikul police station in Kangpokpi district.
