A resident of Mehndipur village, 3 km from the Pakistan border in Khemkaran, Charat owned 12 acres of ancestral farm land. But then one day, he suffered a bullet injury in a dispute between two groups at Khemkaran, and instead of registering an FIR against those who had fired at him, he was booked in an attempt to murder case allegedly at the behest of an Akali leader, sources said.
