For the first time in India, a robotic kidney transplant has been performed. The operation was performed on a 45-year-old patient suffering from kidney failure. Until now, this advanced technology had only been used in select hospitals in the US and Europe. For the first time in the country, a robot-assisted kidney transplant has been performed in a government hospital. The successful surgery was performed on a 45-year-old patient at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi. This operation marks a milestone in AIIMS's history.  AIIMS doctors performed the four-hour surgery. Dr. Virendra Bansal, Professor and Chief Transplant Surgeon, Department of Surgery, AIIMS Delhi, said that the surgery was performed using the Da Vinci Xi robotic surgical system.
