Julius Dorphang was accused of raping a 14-year-old in 2017 when he was still an MLA. Following the allegation of rape, he had absconded. APOCSO court in Meghalaya on Tuesday sentenced former Mawhati legislator and Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) militant, Julius Dorphang to 25 years in imprisonment for the rape of a minor girl. The sentence was pronounced by Special Judge Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO), FS Sangma in Ri-Bhoi district. According to Dorphang’s counsel, Kishore Ch Gautam, the verdict would be challenged at the Meghalaya High Court. “Yeah he has been convicted and I will be filing an appeal in the Meghalaya High Court. I do not agree with the finding of the trial court,” Advocate Gautam said. Maharashtra Public Health Minister Rajesh Tope said the state government was insisting on supplying higher number of vials for a long time so that we can "increase the pace of immunisation against COVID-19". The Maharashtra government on Saturday claimed to have set a new record by inoculating over 10.96 lakh people against COVID-19 in a single day.   “The state achieved this feat with the network of 5,200 vaccination centres where 10,96,493 doses were given.   A Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party leader was shot dead by suspected militants in Kulgam district on Thursday. The deceased, identified as Ghulam Hassan Lone, was shot at by the suspected militants in his native Devsar area. He was immediately rushed to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. New Delhi:  The government on Monday imposed restrictions on the export of Covid rapid antigen testing kits amid several experts warning of a possible third wave of the coronavirus pandemic. "The export of COVID-19 rapid antigen testing kits... has been put under the restricted category, with immediate effect," the directorate general of foreign trade (DGFT) said in a notification. Exporters have to seek a licence or permission from the DGFT for shipping items under the restricted category. Such restrictions are aimed at increasing the domestic availability of the kits. Several experts have been warning of a possible third wave of the pandemic in the future. The number of coronavirus cases in the country rose to 3,22,25,513 on Monday and the death count climbed to 4,31,642, according to the Union health ministry data.

J&K: Over 98k Kashmiri Migrants Issued Domicile Certificates Till End of June

  As many as 98,600 Kashmiri migrants have been issued domicile certificates till the end of June, officials said here on Friday. Giving the breakup, officials said 90,430 domicile certificates were issued to displaced Kashmiri Pandits, while 2,340 families of displaced Kashmiri Pandits were registered as fresh migrants. Of these, 8,170 individuals received the domicile certificate. Similarly, 2,988 families of displaced Persons of Pakistan occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) livings outside Jammu and Kashmir have also been registered and domicile certificate issued to them, they said. Relief and Rehabilitation commissioner T K Bhat, who supervised and monitored the operation of issuance of domicile certificates and fresh registration of displaced Kashmiri Pandits and those from PoJK, said the process had begun in July last year. Delhi Metro feeder e-buses begin plying; entry only through smart cards

The metro smart card is already being used in DTC buses by commuters. No cash payment will be permitted and services will be available for metro commuters only, the DMRC said. The DMRC tweeted on Thursday to announce the starting of the services. In a first for DMRC, state-of-the-art feeder electric buses began operations in the city from Thursday to boost last-mile connectivity for commuters with the Delhi Metro network. Only passengers having a Delhi Metro smart card or metro DTC smart card will be allowed to avail of the services of these e-buses, officials said.   They can use smart cards to pay for their cashless travel since these buses are operating in a fully contactless way, and will not have a conductor on board, enabling entry and exit through turnstiles on the bus by using the smart card, they said.   The metro smart card is already being used in DTC buses by commuters. No cash payment will be permitted and services will be available for metro commuters only, the DMRC said.
