Hyderabad cop dies after motorcyclist hits him during Ganesh immersion duty

A 55-year-old Hyderabad police Sub-Inspector died after an unidentified motorcyclist allegedly hit him while he was deployed for Ganesh immersion arrangements on NTR Marg. The officer initially thought his injuries were minor but later developed dizziness and discomfort. Police are investigating the hit-and-run using CCTV footage and other evidence.


Hyderabad: A 55-year-old police Sub-Inspector died after an unidentified motorcyclist allegedly knocked him down while he was on duty during a Ganesh immersion procession in Hyderabad.


The incident took place in the early hours of Wednesday near Crane No. 2 on NTR Marg at Tank Bund. The officer, identified as K Venkanna, had been deployed in the area as part of arrangements for the immersion procession.


According to police, Venkanna was allegedly hit by a motorcycle whose rider fled immediately after the incident. The impact caused the officer to lose his balance and fall on the road.


Venkanna initially believed that he had sustained only minor injuries. He continued his journey towards Warangal after the incident rather than seeking immediate hospital treatment.


After reaching Warangal, Venkanna began experiencing dizziness and increasing discomfort. His family members then took him to MGM Hospital for treatment.


The police officer died during treatment.


Police have registered a case in connection with the suspected hit-and-run and launched an investigation to identify the motorcyclist.


Investigators are examining CCTV recordings from the Tank Bund and NTR Marg areas, along with other available evidence, to trace the motorcycle and determine the circumstances surrounding the collision.


The identity of the rider involved in the incident has not yet been established.


The incident occurred as Hyderabad witnessed extensive security arrangements for the Ganesh immersion procession. Around 20,000 police personnel have been deployed across the city to manage the procession and maintain security.
