Delhi-NCR International Airport flooded amid heavy rains, passengers stranded

Following the rain in Delhi-NCR, images of waterlogging have emerged in several areas. Parts of the international airport were also flooded.


Rain that began in the afternoon on Friday, September 4th, in the national capital, Delhi, caused waterlogging outside the Indira Gandhi International Airport. Passengers were distressed during this time. Dark clouds had been hovering over the NCR since morning, and Delhi is experiencing heavy rain. The Meteorological Department had predicted rain in the NCR today.


The airport was so flooded that the arrivals section had to be closed for a while. Passengers who were leaving faced difficulties. Arriving passengers and workers said it had been years since such conditions had been experienced.


The Meteorological Department has issued a 'yellow alert' for thunderstorms and rain. Following the rain, some parts of the city were waterlogged. A major waterlogging problem has arisen near Subroto Park.


Heavy rain in Gurugram too

Gurugram also experienced heavy rain. Dark clouds had been hovering over Gurugram since morning. Meanwhile, rain has arrived again. Following the downpour, low-lying areas have been flooded. As always, waterlogging and potholes have exacerbated the problems in Gurugram. The public is facing significant difficulties due to waterlogging at various locations. The district administration held meetings and claimed that there would be no waterlogging, but those promises appear to be failing.


Additionally, water has also flooded Narmada Apartments in Delhi. Vehicles are facing difficulties in moving amid the heavy waterlogging. As the rain continues to intensify in Delhi, the waterlogging on roads is worsening. Residents are also facing significant difficulty crossing the streets on foot.


It rained in Delhi on Thursday as well

Parts of Delhi recorded light rain on Thursday (September 3), while the maximum temperature in the national capital settled at 34.9 degrees Celsius, 0.8 degrees above the season's average. In the last 24 hours till 8.30 am, Ayanagar recorded the highest rainfall of 3.9 millimetres (mm), followed by Palam at 3.1 mm and Lodhi Road at 0.8 mm.


Safdarjung and Ridge saw no rainfall during this period. Between 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., Safdarjung, Lodhi Road, Ridge, and Ayanagar recorded no rainfall, while Palam saw very little rain. The minimum temperature at Safdarjung was recorded at 27 degrees Celsius, 1.4 degrees above normal. 


The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for two days of heavy rain in Delhi-NCR on Thursday and Friday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast generally cloudy skies and moderate rain on Friday and Saturday, and has also issued a 'yellow alert'.
