NEET Paper Leak: 'A crime against the nation'... Why did the CBI say this in court? 111 questions were found in the NTA's master paper.
The CBI opposed the bail plea of accused Dr. Manoj Sirure in the NEET-UG paper leak case in Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court, calling it a "crime against the nation." The agency said the scam affected the future of lakhs of students and damaged the country's reputation. The CBI also revealed that 111 out of 136 handwritten chemistry questions recovered from the mobile phone of a coaching operator from Latur, Maharashtra, matched the NTA's master question paper.
NEET Paper Leak: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) strongly opposed the bail plea of Dr. Manoj Sirure, an accused in the NEET-UG 2024 paper leak case, in Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court on Thursday. During the court hearing, the agency stated that the paper leak is not limited to a single exam, but is a major crime against the nation that has deeply hurt India's reputation.
The CBI argued in court that the leak had left the future of lakhs of deserving students in jeopardy, and many were driven to self-harm by despair. Dr. Manoj Sirure is accused of playing a key role in the network that gained unauthorized access to the question paper before the exam and leaked it.
The court will pronounce its verdict on the bail plea on July 22.
The investigating agency argued that the accused should not be granted any relief at this time due to the sensitivity of the case and the need to identify the main conspirators. After hearing arguments from both sides, the Rouse Avenue Court reserved its decision on the bail plea until July 22nd.
Furthermore, the agency stated that 111 of the 136 handwritten chemistry questions recovered from the mobile phone of a coaching center operator in Latur, Maharashtra, matched the National Testing Agency (NTA) master question paper exactly. The CBI provided this information to the court while opposing the accused's bail plea.
The PDF was sold for Rs 10 lakh.
According to the CBI, PDF files of the leaked question papers were sold via Telegram for ₹1 million. The investigation also revealed that a 150-page "guess paper" containing 410 questions was given to some candidates before the exam, of which approximately 120 questions were from the Chemistry section of the NEET-UG 2026.
13 arrested so far
The CBI has so far arrested 13 people in this case, including both teachers and students. The arrests have been made in several cities, including Delhi, Jaipur, Gurugram, Pune, Nashik, Latur, and Ahilyanagar. The agency is investigating the entire network and is working to unravel the entire paper leak racket.
