Preparations for the funeral of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei are in full swing in Iran. Meanwhile, Iran fears that the US and Israel could launch a major attack during the ceremony.
Iran has already issued a statement warning the US and Israel to refrain from such attacks. According to state media, a senior Iranian military official warned the US and Israel that they would face a severe and regrettable response if they attacked the country during the funeral of slain leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
When is the funeral?
Khamenei's funeral procession will begin in Tehran on July 4 and conclude with his burial in his hometown of Mashhad on July 9. Other events will also be held in Qom and Iraq.
What warning did Iran give?
Major General Ali Abdollahi, commander of Iran's Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters in Tehran, said Iran's enemies should avoid misunderstandings during this period starting Saturday. "We warn the enemies of a strong Iran to avoid any misunderstandings and consider the strong and regrettable reactions of the sons of the Iranian nation present in the Iranian army to respond to any threat or attack," he said in a statement released on the Telegram channel of an Iranian news agency.
Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also issued an open warning to the US on Wednesday. Araghchi wrote on X that the terms of the agreement (MoU) reached in Islamabad are clear and in front of the world. He sarcastically said that US President Donald Trump had promised in Tel Aviv to control his "pets," and that if they disobey their "master," Iran will teach them a lesson. He clearly stated that any threats against the Iranian people and leadership will be responded to promptly and forcefully.
