Pune fort murder: How questions asked by Ketan Agarwal’s sister from Siya exposed a shocking murder plot, what exactly happened?

Ketan Agarwal's sister raised doubts about his death, helping police uncover an alleged murder conspiracy involving his fiancée and her lover.

What was first believed to be a fatal trekking mishap at Lohagad Fort near Pune has now turned into one of the region’s most shocking murder investigations. Police claim 26-year-old businessman Ketan Agarwal was allegedly killed as part of a conspiracy involving his fiancée, Siya Goyal and her alleged partner, Chetan Chaudhary.

While investigators later relied on digital evidence, call records and surveillance footage, police sources say an important lead came from within Ketan’s own family, particularly his sister, who questioned the circumstances surrounding his death from the very beginning.

Questions raised during family visit

According to police sources, a key development took place four days after Ketan’s funeral when Siya visited the Agarwal family residence.

During the meeting, Ketan’s sister reportedly asked Siya several questions about the events that unfolded on the day of the incident. Investigators believe some of her responses did not match the facts known to the family and appeared unusual.

The conversation left the family increasingly doubtful about the accident theory, prompting them to share their concerns with police. Those suspicions later became an important part of the investigation that eventually led authorities to treat the case as a possible murder rather than an accidental death.

Investigation reveals extensive contact

As investigators examined electronic records, they allegedly uncovered a long-standing relationship between Siya and Chetan.

Police sources say the two had known each other for around three years. Their communication records showed thousands of interactions in recent months. Between January and June this year, they reportedly exchanged 2,004 phone calls and spent nearly 238 hours speaking to each other. Authorities are also investigating frequent communication through WhatsApp and FaceTime.

The findings strengthened suspicions that the pair had been in close contact while preparations for Siya’s marriage to Ketan were underway.

Police probe earlier alleged attempts

Investigators now believe the incident at Lohagad Fort was not an isolated event.

According to police, several earlier attempts to harm Ketan may have failed before the alleged conspiracy succeeded. In one episode under investigation, Siya allegedly tried to push Ketan near a dangerous spot while claiming she was protecting him from a snake.

Authorities say other plans could not be carried out because circumstances did not favour the accused.

Police believe the pair continued searching for an opportunity that would allow them to execute their plan without attracting suspicion.

Birthday outing became final visit

Investigators allege that the opportunity arrived on June 18.

According to the probe, Siya persuaded Ketan to accompany her to Lohagad Fort, saying she wanted to celebrate her birthday there. Authorities suspect the visit was part of a carefully planned scheme.

Police claim that once the group reached the fort, events unfolded in a manner that ultimately led to Ketan falling into the gorge, resulting in his death.

Hoodie, phone records and digital evidence

Investigators say Chetan allegedly took several measures to conceal his movements on the day of the incident.

According to police, his internet activity remained inactive for most of the day. Authorities also suspect he deliberately left his personal phone at his workplace and travelled using another device to avoid being traced.

However, surveillance footage reportedly provided an important breakthrough. CCTV cameras captured a man wearing a hoodie despite the hot June weather. Investigators found the clothing choice unusual and began tracking his movements.

Police believe the footage helped establish Chetan’s presence around Lohagad Fort and contributed significantly to the investigation.

Concerns had started emerging earlier

Family members have also informed investigators that Ketan had recently begun expressing concerns regarding Siya’s behaviour and her closeness to another individual.

Relatives said he had started questioning certain aspects of her background and personal relationships, although the matter had not developed into a major dispute.

Investigators are also examining an earlier incident involving a planned pre-wedding trip to Bali. Police suspect Ketan’s passport may have been deliberately removed or hidden, leading to the cancellation of the trip. Authorities believe the episode could offer further insight into the relationship and the alleged planning behind the crime.

The case has stunned both families, especially because wedding arrangements were already underway before Ketan’s death.
