WEST BENGAL NEW CM: The BJP has announced Suvendu Adhikari as the next Chief Minister of West Bengal following the victory in the state’s Assembly elections. This will give the way to Adhikari as the first BJP Chief Minister of Bengal. Suvendu Adhikari was the Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal assembly from 2021 to 2026 during Mamata Banerjee’s tenure as Chief Minister. A former aide of Banerjee, Adhikari has won both from Nandigram in 2021 and Bhabanipur in 2026, making her a potential threat.

Suvendu Adhikari, Amit Shah and other BJP leaders are heading to Lok Bhaban, Kolkata to make this appeal to Governor R.N. Ravi to form the new state cabinet. Union Home Minister Amit Shah took a special visit to Kolkata and interacted with the BJP leaders and elected MLAs to finalise the name of the first BJP Chief Minister. The BJP is poised to nominate Suvendu Adhikari as Chief Minister and Shankar Ghosh and Agnimitra Paul as his running mates, reports state.
This evening, the BJP winning candidates will hold a meeting to elect the leader of the BJP in the Assembly and in that capacity will be the Chief Minister.
The grand oath ceremony will take place on the Brigade Parade Ground, the historic ground in the heart of Kolkata. It is to be expected that along with the NDA’s blockbuster performance in the recent polls, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, chief ministers of NDA ruled states and senior BJP leaders will attend in a display of strength.
Who is Suvendu Adhikari?
Suvendu Adhikari is an experienced politician from India and a well-known member of the Bharatiya Janata Party in West Bengal. He is currently serving as the Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly. Adhikari entered politics through the Trinamool Congress party and was one of the key figures behind the Nandigram agitation opposing land acquisition in 2007. In 2020, he switched to the BJP before the assembly polls held in West Bengal the following year. He came into national prominence by defeating Mamata Banerjee in the constituency of Nandigram.
Who will be the deputy CMs?
The BJP hasn’t named anyone for the Chief Minister post in West Bengal yet. Still, reliable sources say Suvendu Adhikari is almost certain to take the role. For the two deputy Chief Minister spots, the party reportedly wants one woman and someone from North Bengal. Agnimitra Paul is the top choice for the female deputy, while Dilip Ghosh is likely to land the other deputy CM position.
