Sex racket running in Akali councilor's hotel exposed: 14 women, 7 men, including a minor
Police in Jalandhar have busted a prostitution racket. On Tuesday afternoon, the police raided an alleged brothel located in a hotel on the Jalandhar-Amritsar bypass. Surprisingly, the prostitution ring was being run by none other than an Akali Dal councillor. The police have registered a case against seven persons, including the Akali Dal councillor, while 14 girls - one of whom is a minor - have been arrested.
According to DSP Dharamkot, Jaswinder Singh, the police had received a tip-off that a bungalow located on the highway leading from Bugipura Chowk to Jalandhar-Amritsar Bypass - which was being run under the name "Devil John Hotel" - was operating as a prostitution hub for the past about three months.
Acting on a tip-off, a joint team led by SHO Gursewak Singh of Mehna Police Station and PCR Incharge Khemchand Parashar conducted a raid. During the raid, the police recovered various items from the building. Apart from this, 14 girls brought from Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Faridkot and Moga were caught on the spot. The police also arrested four youths who were allegedly present at the place.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the hotel belongs to Jagjit Singh alias 'Jeeta' - a councillor of ward number 28 of Moga city - who was running this illegal operation along with his associates, Lakhwinder Singh and Balwinder Singh (residents of Ramuwala). The police have registered a case against seven persons including the councillor under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, the POCSO Act and Section 143 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The process of producing the minor victim in court for recording her statement and undergoing medical examination under Section 164 has been initiated. The police have said that the matter is being investigated thoroughly, and action will also be taken against other persons involved in the case.
