A massive fire broke out around 5:30 pm on Wednesday evening in Lucknow's Vikasnagar area, causing widespread devastation. The fire quickly engulfed the entire slum area. The flames were so fierce that the flames were visible from up to 10 kilometers away. More than 250 slums were completely destroyed in the incident.
More than 10 cylinders exploded. Due to the fire in the colony, gas cylinders kept in the huts started burning one after the other. The explosion of the gas cylinders shook the entire area.
People started running here and there to save their lives. Around 20 nearby concrete houses were also evacuated as a precaution. As soon as the information was received, 20 fire brigade vehicles reached the spot and after about 3 hours of hard work, the fire was brought under control. For safety reasons, electricity was also cut off in the entire area.
The scene after the incident was horrific. People whose huts were burned were seen crying and wailing. Many families lost all their belongings. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took cognizance of the incident and directed officials to immediately reach the scene and expedite relief and rescue operations.
Take these precautions with gas cylinders...
Such accidents often escalate into major dangers due to minor negligence. Taking a few important precautions when using gas cylinders can help prevent such accidents:
1. Always keep the cylinder upright.
Never lay the gas cylinder down. Always use it in an upright position.
2. Regularly check for leaks.
Check the pipes and regulator at regular intervals. If you smell gas, turn off the cylinder immediately.
3. Use ISI marked pipes and regulators.
Cheap or poor quality pipes can cause major accidents.
4. Keep the stove and cylinder separate.
Keep the stove slightly above the cylinder and at a safe distance so that the fire does not reach the cylinder directly.
5. Store the cylinder in a well-ventilated area.
Storing it in a closed room or a cramped area can be dangerous.
6. Keep away from children
Keep gas stove and cylinder out of reach of children.
7. What to do in case of fire
Immediately turn off the regulator.
Do not turn on/off the power switch
Do not use matches or lighters at all.
Immediately inform the fire brigade
8. Always check the expiry date.
The expiry date is printed on every cylinder. Do not use an expired cylinder.
