India's SLCM capability proven! DRDO successfully tests underwater cruise missile, now enemy actions will be submerged.

DRDO Submarine Launched Cruise Missile: DRDO successfully demonstrated the capability of its submarine-launched cruise missile (SLCM) in two full-range missions in 2024. This missile is capable of delivering precision strikes against both land and sea targets. It can be fired from underwater stealth.

India's strategic capabilities have received a major boost from the undersea realm. DRDO successfully demonstrated its Submarine-Launched Cruise Missile (SLCM) in two full-range missions in 2024. This missile is capable of delivering precision strikes against enemy targets, both land and sea. It can be fired from underwater stealth. This has elevated the Indian Navy's undersea warfare capabilities to a new level.

Designed for covert missions,
both tests were conducted from a secret underwater platform designed to simulate operational submarine conditions. The first test, conducted earlier this year, tested the missile capsule's ejection mechanics, its underwater stability, and its ability to maintain pressure. According to telemetry data, the missile accurately oriented itself under water pressure without any mechanical assistance. This results in extremely low noise levels, essential for submarine stealth.

The test was a complete success.
The second full-range mission, conducted in mid-2024, tested the missile's descent to the surface, capsule separation, and transition to air-breathing flight. High-speed cameras and underwater sensors recorded every step, from booster ignition to target simulation. The missile flew close to the ground surface, following programmed waypoints. Finally, a successful simulation of a terminal attack was carried out on a mock destroyer and an inland bunker.

According to DRDO, both tests were conducted under realistic sea depth, temperature, and salinity profiles. No abnormalities were observed, fully validating the operational reliability of the SLCM .
