Bihar Election Results: What role did Chirag play in Nitish Kumar's JDU's big victory, he played a 'game' in the 2020 assembly elections

Bihar Election 2025 Result: Nitish Kumar's party, the JDU, is poised for a landslide victory in the Bihar Assembly elections. Chirag Paswan also played a significant role in this victory. Let's find out how?

Bihar Assembly Elections 2025: The trends so far in the Bihar Assembly elections have made it clear that the NDA is once again forming the government. Nitish Kumar's party, the Janata Dal United (JDU), is winning a landslide victory. Chirag Paswan also played a major role in this JDU victory. Indeed, Chirag Paswan's party, the LJP (Ram Vilas Paswan), significantly damaged the JDU in the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections. Let's find out how.

Chirag Paswan contested the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections independently from the NDA . The LJP (Ram Vilas Paswan) fielded candidates in 135 of the 243 assembly seats. Although Chirag Paswan's party won only one seat, it significantly damaged the JDU. Chirag Paswan did not field any candidates against BJP candidates, but instead fielded candidates against Nitish Kumar's JDU. The JDU suffered the consequences.

JDU was at third position.

Due to Chirag Paswan, JDU had to be satisfied with being at third position in Bihar Assembly Elections 2020. BJP had become a bigger party than JDU in Bihar. Although despite this Nitish Kumar remained in the CM chair but the pain of winning less seats kept bothering Nitish for the entire 5 years. In Bihar Assembly Elections 2020, BJP had contested 110 seats and won 74 seats whereas JDU could win only 43 seats by contesting 115 seats. RJD had become the largest party by winning 75 seats.

Bihar Assembly Election 2020 Results

1. RJD: 75
2. BJP: 74
3. JDU: 43
4. Congress: 19
5. CPI (ML): 12
6. LGP (R): 1
7. Others: 19

Nitish Kumar's arrow is flying.

JDU is contesting a total of 101 seats in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. Chirag Paswan's party, the LGP (R), is also contesting with the NDA. This is the first assembly election in which the LGP (R) and JDU are contesting together. This has benefited Nitish Kumar's party, as Chirag has not fielded candidates on any of Nitish Kumar's seats. Consequently, JDU is leading in several seats.

Meanwhile, Chirag Paswan's party appears to be benefiting from this alliance. The LJP (R) contested 28 seats and is leading in 21. The NDA is poised for a landslide victory this election. This significant victory is also due to the coming together of Chirag Paswan and Nitish Kumar. Chirag Paswan appears to be receiving approximately 5% of the Paswan community's votes in one go. In the last Lok Sabha elections, Chirag Paswan's party was part of the NDA, and this benefited him. You should know that the NDA alliance includes the LJP (R), RLP, and HAM, along with the BJP and JDU.
