Tihar Jail: Prisoners will create registers in Tihar Jail, preparations to set up new manufacturing units

Preparations are being made to set up new manufacturing units in Tihar Jail, one of the biggest jails in the country. The jail administration is working on this rapidly. Under this scheme, the prisoners will prepare a register in the jail, which will be used by the jail staff. Apart from this, many other things will also be manufactured in the jail.

Tihar Jail, one of the biggest and most popular jails in India, is now rapidly moving towards transforming itself from a mere punishing system to a centre of reform and rehabilitation. Earlier, jail was seen as a place to punish criminals, but now the prisoners here are being motivated towards work, skills and a respectable life. Under this new initiative of the jail administration, goods are being manufactured in the factory of Tihar Jail, which are being used in government offices, schools, courts. By linking prisoners to employment, not only their mentality is to be changed, but also the expenses inside the jail are to be reduced.

Plan for 2 new manufacturing units - Many essential items are already being manufactured in prison factories, which include files, soaps, sweets, spices, oil, bread, biscuits, furniture, LED lights, blankets, sheets and many other things. Bakery and clothes prepared in the prison are available in Tihar's outlets and markets. According to a Hindustan report, the prison administration is now preparing to set up two new manufacturing units. These units have proposals to manufacture registers as well as slippers, toothpaste and underwear. This proposal will soon be sent to the government after the approval of senior officials.

What is the purpose of this step- Let us tell you that the purpose of this step is not only the product but also to give the prisoners a chance to be self-reliant, self-sufficient and reconstructive, so that when they come out of jail, instead of going back to crime, they can create a new identity in society with their learned skills and can make a living by starting their own business.

How much salary is given- In Tihar Jail, prisoners are not only getting reform but also the path of self-respect and self-reliance. The prisoners working here are paid on the basis of their skills and experience. A normal prisoner gets a salary of 7000 per month. Whereas after six months of experience, the salary of the prisoner reaches ten thousand. This entire initiative promotes the idea that punishment should be a means of reform, not just punishment. This initiative is not only increasing the productivity in the jail, but is also reducing the expenses of the jail administration.
