Supreme Court's big decision on Behbal Kalan firing case

Behbal Kalan firing case: The Supreme Court, while refusing to interfere with the High Court's decision, clarified that the decision to transfer the case to Chandigarh was judicially correct.

Behbal Kalan firing case: The Supreme Court has given a major verdict on the Behbal Kalan firing case. The country's highest court has rejected the special leave petition of the Punjab government, in which the government had challenged the orders of the High Court. Under this SLP, a demand was made to stay the transfer of the hearing of the Behbal Kalan firing case from the Faridkot court to the Chandigarh court.

The case relates to the 2015 Behbal Kalan firing incident, which was a case of hurting religious sentiments in Punjab and subsequent police firing. The case has been the subject of a long-running legal battle. The Supreme Court, while refusing to interfere with the High Court's decision, clarified that the decision to transfer the case to Chandigarh was judicially correct. The court also rejected the Punjab government's special leave petition.

Let us tell you that the Punjab and Haryana High Court had some time ago ordered the transfer of the case from Faridkot to Chandigarh to ensure a fair trial and a trial free from political influence. Against this, the Punjab government had approached the Supreme Court last year.

The Behbal Kalan firing case relates to the police firing that took place in Behbal Kalan village of Faridkot district in October 2015, in which the police opened fire on people protesting against the sacrilege of a religious scripture, killing two people and injuring several others. Some senior officers of the Punjab Police were made accused in the case.
