Meerut shocker: Wife, lover kill Merchant Navy officer, seal body parts in cement drum

Victim Saurabh came to know in 2019 that his wife Muskaan had an affair with his friend Sahil, but forgave her for their daughter

PTC Web Desk: A gruesome murder case has shocked Meerut, where a Merchant Navy officer was brutally killed, chopped into multiple pieces, and sealed in a cement-filled drum by his wife and her lover. The crime, driven by an extramarital affair, has unveiled a chilling tale of betrayal, deception, and meticulous planning.

Saurabh Rajput, a Merchant Navy officer, married Muskaan Rastogi in 2016 after a love marriage. To spend more time with his wife, Saurabh quit his high-paying job. However, this decision did not sit well with his family, leading to conflicts at home. Consequently, he moved out with Muskaan, and they began living in a rented house.

Their happiness was short-lived. In 2019, the couple welcomed a daughter, but Saurabh soon discovered Muskaan's affair with his close friend, Sahil Shukla. This revelation led to tension between the couple, and divorce was considered. However, for the sake of his daughter’s future, Saurabh chose to give his marriage another chance. In 2023, he rejoined the Merchant Navy and left India for work, unaware that this decision would ultimately cost him his life.

Saurabh's daughter turned six on February 28. Wanting to celebrate with his little one, he returned home on February 24. By this time, Muskaan and Sahil had grown closer and had already chalked out a plan to kill Saurabh.

According to police reports, Muskaan mixed sleeping pills in Saurabh’s food on March 4. Once he fell unconscious, she and Sahil killed her with a knife. They dismembered his body into nearly 15 pieces. The severed parts were then placed inside a drum and sealed with wet cement, ensuring no traces of the crime remained. Their plan was to dispose of the body in stages to avoid suspicion.

To avoid raising suspicion, Muskaan told neighbours that Saurabh had gone on a trip to a hill station. To further support their alibi, she and Sahil took Saurabh’s phone and travelled to Manali. During their stay, they used his phone to upload pictures on social media, creating an illusion that Saurabh was enjoying a vacation.

Despite these efforts, Saurabh’s prolonged absence worried his family. When he stopped answering calls for several days, his relatives lodged a missing person complaint with the police.

Following the complaint, the police launched an investigation and took Muskaan and Sahil into custody for questioning. After interrogation, the duo broke down and confessed to the gruesome crime. They revealed that Saurabh’s dismembered body was hidden inside a drum filled with cement.

When police attempted to retrieve the remains, they found that breaking through the hardened cement was no easy task. Initial efforts with a hammer and chisel failed, forcing the authorities to transport the drum to a mortuary, where a drill machine was used to extract the remains. It took nearly 14 days after the murder for police to finally recover Saurabh’s body.

Meerut City police chief Ayush Vikram Singh said Saurabh’s family had filed a complaint after he was untraceable for several days. On suspicion, his wife Muskaan and Sahil were detained. During interrogation, they confessed that they killed Saurabh on March 4, chopped up his body, put it in a drum, and sealed it with cement. The body has been sent for autopsy. The accused have been arrested.
