2 Kerala Men Executed In UAE For Murders, Families Informed: MEA
Two Indian nationals, Muhammed Rinash Arangilottu and Muraleedharan Perumthatta Valappil, were executed in the UAE for murder. The executions were upheld by the highest court, MEA stated.
Two Indian
nationals from Kerala, Muhammed Rinash Arangilottu and Muraleedharan
Perumthatta Valappil, have been executed in the United Arab Emirates (UAE)
after being convicted in separate murder cases. The highest court of the UAE,
the Court of Cassation, upheld their death sentences, and the executions were
carried out as per local laws.
The Ministry
of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed on Thursday that the UAE authorities had
informed the Indian Embassy about the executions on 28 February. The embassy subsequently
informed the families of the two individuals and extended assistance for their
last rites.
"The
families of the concerned have been informed. The Embassy is in touch with them
and facilitating their participation in the last rites," the MEA’s XP
Division stated, as per news agency ANI.
The burial of
Rinash was conducted on Thursday, with his family members present to pay their
last respects and participate in prayers. The MEA stated that the Indian
Embassy provided all possible consular and legal assistance, including filing
mercy petitions and pardon requests with the UAE government.
According to
India Today, Rinash was convicted of murdering an Emirati national, while Muraleedharan
was sentenced for the killing of an Indian. Muraleedharan had been in jail
since 2009, and his father, Kesavan, had earlier sought help from former Kerala
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and other political leaders.
Shahzadi
Khan Case
This comes as
Shahzadi Khan, a 33-year-old Indian national from Uttar Pradesh, was also
executed in Abu Dhabi for the murder of an infant under her care. The UAE’s
highest court upheld her sentence, and her execution was carried out in
accordance with local laws.
At Shahzadi’s
burial in Abu Dhabi, the Indian Embassy facilitated authorised representatives
of her family to attend the funeral prayers.
Her father,
Shabbir Khan, had sought clemency but claimed he did not receive adequate
support. Recalling his last conversation with his daughter, he said, “She was
not given justice. I tried my best. I have been trying since last year. I don’t
have enough money to go there (Abu Dhabi) and hire a lawyer. The government did
not support us.”
The MEA
emphasised that all necessary legal measures, including mercy petitions, were
taken for the three individuals before their executions.
