According to media reports, the 90s Bollywood actress returned to India a few months ago after 24 years. Why did she disappear from India and will she return to Bollywood after returning to India? Her answer to this was, "The reason for my departure from India was spirituality. In 1996, I was inclined towards spirituality and during that time I met Guru Gagan Giri Maharaj. After his arrival, my interest in spirituality increased. After this, my penance started."

Mamta Kulkarni also said, "I believe that Bollywood gave me name and fame but after this I left Bollywood as well. I kept doing tapasya from 2000 to 2012. I was in Dubai for many years and lived in a two bedroom hall. I was a brahmachari for 12 years."
