Karnataka BJP leader BV Naik’s supporters attempted to die by suicide by pouring petrol on the roads.
Supporters of Karnataka BJP leader BV Naik attempted
suicide after he was denied the Lok Sabha ticket by the party.
Naik’s supporters, identified as Shivakumar and
Shivamurthy, attempted to die by suicide by pouring petrol on the roads.
Another supporter, who was protesting with them, snatched the petrol can from
them.
BV Naik’s supporters also blocked the roads by torching the tyres on the main
road.
In the 2019 parliamentary elections, Naik, who was then with the Congress, lost
to BJP candidate Raja Amareshwara Naik. Naik had lost the polls with a
substantial margin of 1,17,716 votes.
BV Naik later joined the BJP and contested from Manvi in the 2023 state
Assembly election. He lost to Congress candidate Hampayya Naik by a margin of
7,719 votes.
For the upcoming polls, BV Naik was expecting to land the BJP ticket from the
Raichur Lok Sabha seat. However, the party's central leadership decided to
field Raja Amareshwara Naik once again, leading to considerable discontent
among BV Naik's supporters.
