Kejriwal was issued summons several times by the ED in this case but he did not participate in the investigation agency's interrogation. Earlier on Thursday afternoon, the High Court had rejected the petition seeking stay on Kejriwal's arrest. Kejriwal's legal team has also appealed in the Supreme Court.

Kejriwal will remain CM even after arrest.

Delhi Minister Atishi said that Kejriwal will remain CM of Delhi. Now the question arises whether Kejriwal can run the government from jail? There is no obligation to resign upon arrest under Indian law. According to law, the arrest of a person does not mean that the charges against him have been proved, in such a situation, the arrest of a CM does not mean that he can immediately lose his post.

What was the new liquor policy?

On 17 November 2021, the Delhi government implemented the new liquor policy in the state. Under this, 32 zones were created in the capital and a maximum of 27 shops were to be opened in each zone. In the new liquor policy, all the liquor shops of Delhi were made private. The government had argued that this would yield a benefit of Rs 3,500 crore. Before this, 60 percent of the liquor shops in Delhi were government and 40 percent were private.

Why were questions raised on liquor policy?

1. Commission of wholesale license holders increased to 12%.

2. There were allegations of increasing the monopoly of big companies.

3. Liquor will be sold only by private shops and not by government shops.

4. Liquor shopkeepers were selling liquor at huge discounts.

5. Bigger shops opened than before.

When was the scam revealed

The agency has alleged that he was in touch with Kejriwal in the Delhi Liquor Policy case, after which the liquor traders benefited, in return he gave bribe to the Aam Aadmi Party. This scam was revealed in 2022 by the report of the then Chief Secretary of Delhi, Naresh Kumar. Naresh Kumar in his report made allegations against many big leaders of Aam Aadmi Party. Delhi LG VK Saxena recommended a CBI inquiry. After this, CBI registered the case on 17 August 2022.
