1993 Serial Bomb Blast Case: Abdul Karim Tunda acquitted, CBI will challenge in Supreme Court

New Delhi : A day after the TADA court has acquitted the accused Abdul Karim Tunda in the 1993 serial bomb blast case, citing lack of evidence, a big statement from the CBI has come out. CBI has said that, after studying the decision of the TADA court, it will challenge this order in the Supreme Court. Along with this, the CBI said that so far 12 people have been convicted in the case, including Irfan and Hamir-ul-Uddin, who were sentenced by Judge Mahavir of the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA) court on Thursday. Prasad Gupta sentenced to life imprisonment. The judge has acquitted Tunda.

It is noteworthy that in the year 1993, on the midnight of 5-6 December, there were serial explosions in six long distance trains including Rajdhani Express in Lucknow, Kanpur, Hyderabad, Surat and Mumbai. Two people were killed and 22 were injured in the blasts. In this case, the CBI had filed a charge sheet against 21 accused, 15 of whom were sentenced to life imprisonment by the TADA court of Ajmer 20 years ago on February 28, 2004. The Supreme Court had upheld the punishment of 10 of these convicts.

It may be noted that the CBI had accused Tunda of blasts in four trains on the first anniversary of the demolition of Babri Masjid in 1992. Following the acquittal, the Rajasthan government urged the Center to ask the CBI to challenge the acquittal. 

In this case, Tunda's lawyer Shafqat Sultani said that CBI failed to present any solid evidence against Tunda. The court said in its decision, "Abdul Karim Tunda is innocent. He has been acquitted of all sections. The CBI prosecutor has not presented any concrete evidence before the court in the TADA, IPC, Railways Act, Arms Act or Explosives case." Could."
