3 Railway Staffers Killed After Local Train Runs Over Them Near Mumbai During Signalling Work
All of the deceased were from the signalling department of the Mumbai division
In a tragic incident, three
railway staffers working on tracks died on the spot after a local train ran
over them near Mumbai. The accident took place between Vasai Road and Naigaon
on the UP slow line while they were fixing a signalling issue.
They had gone to fix some
signalling point that failed on Monday evening.
The deceased have been
identified as chief signalling inspector in Bhayander, Vasu Mitra; electrical
signalling maintainer, Somnath Uttam Lambutre and helper Sachin Wankhade, the
Western Railways informed in a statement.
All of the deceased were from
the signalling department of the Mumbai division.
“The incident occurred at 8.55 pm
on Monday between Vasai Road and Naigaon stations when the local was going
towards Churchgate,” an official of the Government Railway Police (GRP) was
quoted as saying by news
agency PTI.
Following the incident, the
Western Railway ordered an inquiry into the incident. Meanwhile, the
authorities have paid Rs 55,000 each to the family members of the three
deceased as immediate relief.
