Militants shot dead police officer

Militants shot dead police officer in Imphal. Chingtham Anand, a senior Manipur police officer, was shot dead by suspected Kuki militants at Eastern Ground in Moreh on Tuesday.

Police said Mr Anand was discharging duty as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in the border town and was monitoring operations in the area to enable helicopter service.

Chingtham Anand was hit with a long-range weapon and the bullet penetrated his chest.

He said that after the incident, suspected Kuki militants also attacked other police personnel. Heavy firing has been reported from both sides in the border town.

Since various Kuki organizations have stopped police movement on the highway, only a few policemen were on duty in the border town.

Additional forces were airlifted to control the situation. During the last few days, Manipur Police personnel had arrested around 11 Myanmar nationals who were involved in illegal activities in Moreh.
