World Cup 2023: South Africa has suffered two
major setbacks before the World Cup. South African fast bowlers Enrich
Norkia and Sisanda Magala were out of this tournament to be held in India.
South Africa has suffered a double shock before the World Cup. The
news of injury to both the players was confirmed by head coach Rob Walter. Bowling
all-rounder Andile Phelukwayo and fast bowler Lizard Williams have both been
included in the World Cup squad.
South Africa 's first match against Sri Lanka
Walter said, “It is very disappointing that both of them will not
be able to play the World Cup. Both are excellent players and very useful
too. We will continue to support him in his return to competitive cricket. Norkia
has suffered a waist injury. Meanwhile, Magala is suffering from a left
knee injury.
Both were included in South Africa's 15-man preliminary squad. The
South African team was to leave for India on Saturday but both could not
recover in time. South Africa has to play its first match in the World Cup
against Sri Lanka on October 7 in Delhi.
World Cup will start from October 5
World Cup 2023 will start from October 5, where the first match
will be between England and New Zealand. India will host the entire
tournament for the first time. It will include ten teams, whose matches
will be scheduled at ten venues from October 5 to November 19.
The tournament will begin at the Narendra Modi Stadium in
Ahmedabad and conclude with the final at the same venue on Sunday, November 19. India's
campaign will begin on October 8 with the match against Australia in Chennai.
