UCC Issue: Deadline extended for common people to give suggestions on Uniform Civil Code, Law Commission's decision

Uniform Civil Code: The Law Commission has decided to give an extension of two weeks for public opinion on Uniform Civil Code (UCC).

Law Commission On UCC: The Law Commission has extended the deadline for giving public opinion on the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). Its deadline is ending on Friday (July 14). Meanwhile, the Law Commission has extended its date till July 28. On June 14, reactions were sought from organizations and the public on UCC. 

According to the news agency PTI, the Law Commission has said that there was tremendous response from the public on the subject of UCC. In view of several requests received from different quarters regarding extension of time, the Law Commission has decided to extend the same by two weeks. A public notice said that any interested person, institution or organization can submit comments on the UCC till July 28 on the commission's website.

Law commission received more than 50 lakh responses

The one-month deadline for filing responses ended on Friday, after which it was extended. Till Thursday, the Law Commission had received more than 50 lakh suggestions through online medium. Apart from online views, the Commission also received many responses in hard copy.

On Thursday (July 13), news agency PTI quoted sources as saying that apart from receiving online responses on the website, the commission has also received hard copies. At the same time, their number is going to be much higher by the end of the deadline.

At the same time, some organizations have approached the law panel demanding a personal hearing on the UCC. Sources said that after examining the responses, a decision would be taken on inviting the organizations for personal hearing. On 14 June, the Law Commission launched a new consultation process on the UCC by seeking views from stakeholders, including the public and recognized religious organisations.
