Manipur Violence: In the past 24 hours, Manipur has witnessed a fresh outbreak of violence, resulting in the death of nine individuals, including a woman, and leaving several others injured. Sources in the army have reported that the fatalities occurred during a late-night incident of firing in the Khamenlok area.

The injured have been swiftly transported to Imphal for medical treatment. Some of the deceased individuals display cut marks on their bodies and multiple bullet injuries, indicating the severity of the violence.

In response to the recent surge in violence, the relaxation of the curfew has been limited. Manipur, a northeastern state, has been grappling with heightened tensions for over a month, primarily due to ongoing ethnic clashes.

Meanwhile, few days ago an injured eight-year-old boy, his mother and another relative were killed when an ambulance was set ablaze by a mob in Manipur's West Imphal district, officials said on Wednesday.

The incident was reported at Iroisemba on Sunday evening. The eight-year-old boy was being taken to a hospital by his mother and their relative in Imphal as he had sustained a bullet injury in his head during a shoot-out. The deceased have been identified as Tonsing Hangsing (8), his mother Meena Hangsing (45), and Lydia Lourembam (37). Following the incident, security has been beefed up in and around the camp where it happened.

As per reports, Tonsing along with his mother had been staying at an Assam Rifles relief camp at Kangchup. However, the boy was hit by a bullet when a gunfight started in the area on June 4.

Sources said a senior Assam Rifles officer immediately reported the matter to the police in Imphal and arranged for an ambulance. "Since the mother was from the majority community, a decision was taken to take the child to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal by road,” said the sources.

For a few km, the ambulance was under Assam Rifles escort. Later, it was taken over by the local police. "However, the ambulance was waylaid by civilians at Isoisemba and set afire. All three in the vehicle were killed. The bodies are yet to be recovered, it is learnt.
