In a statement on her Twitter handle, Rio Olympics 2016 bronze medalist Sakshi Malik said that the wrestlers will go to Haridwar at 6 pm on Tuesday to throw the medals in the holy river. Sakshi had said in the statement, “Medals are our life, our soul. We are going to pour them into the Ganges. After pouring into the Ganges, our lives will have no meaning, so we will sit on a death fast at India Gate.” Wrestler Vinesh Phogat also shared this statement.


 On the other hand, Sri Ganga Sabha had opposed the throwing of wrestlers' medals into the Ganges. Legislative Assembly Speaker Nitin Gautam said that this is the territory of Ganga, do not make it an arena of politics, medals are not the bones of the game. The game is immortal, worship, welcome. May God bless them with wisdom. Nitin Gautam said that we will stop the shedding of medals. Talking to 'ABP News', Ganga Sabha General Secretary Tanmay Vashisht said that they will not let the medals flow on Hari Ki Pauri. It is a religious place, it cannot be allowed to be used for protest.

Congress appealed not to shed the medal 

Apart from this, the Congress has appealed to the wrestlers not to throw their medals in the Ganga. Satpal Brahmachari, president of Congress Mahanagar, said that don't waste your efforts in the Ganga, there are other avenues of struggle. Along with this, farmer leader Rakesh Tikait appealed to the wrestlers not to throw their medals in the Ganges.

The wrestlers were removed from the Jantar Mantar

The protesting wrestlers and their supporters were taken to different places in the national capital and later released. After putting the wrestlers in the buses, the police officers removed the stalls, mattresses, coolers, fans and tarpaulin roofs and other items from the protest site. The Delhi Police said they would not allow the wrestlers to return to the venue.
