The Players Protesting Against The Wrestling Association Expressed Their Displeasure Over The Oversight Committee Of The Center

 

(Pradeep Kumar): The wrestlers protesting against the Wrestling Association today expressed their unhappiness over the Oversight Committee of the Centre. Protesters Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat and Sakshi Malik have tweeted one after the other saying that their opinion was not taken before forming the committee. After the allegations of sexual harassment and dharna by wrestler players against Wrestling Association President Braj Bhushan Sharan Singh, the Central Government had announced the Oversize Committee, but now the wrestler players have expressed their unhappiness over it. After the performance of the wrestlers, Sports Minister Anurag Thakur on Monday announced the names of the members of the Oversight Committee to oversee the functioning of the Wrestling Federation WFI.

 

After the announcement of the central government, now the wrestler players have tweeted expressing their objection. Olympic medalist Bajrang Punia tweeted that we were assured that we would be consulted before the formation of the Oversight Committee. It is very sad that we were not even consulted before the formation of this committee. Wrestler Bajrang Punia has tagged PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Sports Minister Anurag Thakur along with this tweet. Olympic wrestler Sakshi Malik also tweeted her displeasure. We were not even consulted earlier.

Wrestler player Vinesh Phogat also wrote more or less the same while tweeting what another player wrote. We were not even consulted. In another tweet, Vinesh Phogat wrote that truth can be harassed but not defeated. Vinesh Phogat said in another tweet that if the destination is big then keep your spirits high. By saying this, Vinesh Phogat indicated a big struggle ahead.

 

Earlier, on Monday, the Central Government has announced the formation of an Oversight Committee under the leadership of veteran boxer MC Mary Kom. This committee will investigate all the allegations leveled against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, President of Wrestling Federation of India. Earlier, the Indian Olympic Association had also announced to form a committee under the leadership of MC Mary Kom.

The Oversight Committee constituted by the Central Government has to submit its report in 4 weeks but now the wrestlers have expressed their displeasure by questioning the manner in which the Oversight Committee was constituted "without consultation". However, the wrestlers have started a new debate in this dispute by raising the question of not taking opinion in the formation of the Oversight Committee.
