Delhi: Clash between AAP-BJP over mayoral election, protest against each other on the streets

After the uproar in Delhi MCD House on January 6, today once again AAP and BJP appeared face to face.


The mercury is continuously falling in Delhi but the political temperature is high. After the uproar in the MCD House on January 6, today once again AAP and BJP appeared face to face. The house was adjourned after the uproar that started during the swearing-in.  

On Monday morning, Aam Aadmi Party workers protested outside the residence of Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena. One of the AAP workers protesting against the LG said, “Our protest is against the swearing in of nominated corporators before the elected corporators. He alleged that he was being administered the oath first to facilitate voting in the mayoral election.


A demonstration was also held in front of the Aam Aadmi Party headquarters in Delhi. AAP workers took out a protest march from the party headquarters to the Lt Governor's residence. AAP workers said that “we are opposing the brutal murder of the Constitution by the BJP. According to the constitution, the party with the largest number of members shall appoint its own presiding officer and mayor. The BJP with fewer members is trying to make its mayor the wrong way."

 

BJP demonstrated in front of CM Kejriwal's house

On the other hand, BJP workers demonstrated near CM Arvind Kejriwal's house. A large number of BJP workers were seen marching towards the Chief Minister's residence with party flags and placards in their hands. During the protest, a BJP worker said that “the elected councilors were taking oath on behalf of the LG. You corporators who act like goons, violate the constitution and commit violence should apologise. CM Kejriwal should also apologise."

 

Another BJP worker who was protesting said that "the violence and inappropriate behavior was started by AAP. They started the violence, you can see the footage."

 

Delhi Police used water cannon on BJP workers protesting outside CM Kejriwal's residence. BJP workers are protesting against the violence that took place on 6 January.
