Kejriwal lays out 15-point action plan to combat pollution

 

Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, released a list of 15 actions on Friday to monitor and reduce pollution in the nation’s capital during winter.

Kejriwal said that the winter months see a rise in Delhi’s pollution and that his government will work with the federal government and neighbouring states to fight the problem. Speaking at a local news conference, Kejriwal announced that the 15-point action plan will involve the installation of 233 anti-smog guns, at least 150 mobile anti-smog guns, and the creation of 611 teams to prevent open rubbish burning.

He said that 586 teams have been established to monitor municipal building sites and successfully carry out the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).

Gopal Rai, the environment minister for Delhi, mandated the use of anti-smog weapons on all building and demolition sites greater than 5,000 square metres on Tuesday.

Kejriwal further said that the Particulate Matter (PM) 10 level in the nation’s capital has decreased by 18.6% as a result of the reduction in air pollution.

“In the past seven years, two crore Delhi residents have worked with the AAP administration to take several actions to reduce pollution. As a result, the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) report of the Indian government states that there would be a significant improvement in air pollution in 2021–2022 compared to 2017–2018. PM 10 levels have decreased by 18.6% “he said.

The AAP national convenor listed the “ten most important milestones” in the process, noting that the provision of 24-hour power has greatly decreased pollution because it does not contribute to it like diesel does.

He said that Delhi had developed into a “model zone without coal-based thermal power plants.”

The national capital’s green cover has increased since the Aam Aadmi Party government took office, according to Kejriwal, who also claimed that 380 teams have been formed to strictly enforce adherence to Pollution Under Control certificates and ensure that diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years do not operate.

“Delhi’s green cover is now 23.6%, up from 20% when we took office,” he claimed.

Kejriwal also praised the Central government for its assistance in reducing pollution by building peripheral expressways alongside Delhi, which have caused many trucks to start commuting from outside Delhi.
