Bangalore:  The Waqf Board has taken a tough stand after the Greater Bangalore Municipal Corporation (BBMP) declared the Idgah ground as the property of the Revenue Department. The board said on Sunday that this decision of BBMP is contempt of Supreme Court. For this the board is preparing for a legal battle. Objecting to the BBMP's decision, Waqf Board Chairman Shafi Saadi said that the board will fight the legal battle. Saadi said the Supreme Court had ruled in 1965 that the Idgah grounds were the property of the Waqf Board. Therefore, the judgment is not valid and this order is contempt of court.

BBMP had sought documents
Sadi said that we are now contacting legal experts. The BBMP had earlier said that the property was not theirs, but on Saturday they issued an order saying that the Idgah ground is the property of the revenue department. Waqf Board had applied for Khata (Property Legal Document) with BBMP, which was rejected. Joint commissioner Srinivas had issued a notice to the Waqf Board asking it to submit documents to claim the ownership of the Idgah ground.

This is the BBMP's argument. The
BBMP had given two months time to present the documents. As the Waqf Board failed to produce the required documents. Hence, the BBMP refused to release the account and declared the Karnataka Revenue Department as the default owner of the land. Chamarajanagar Nagrik Manch had applied for celebrating Independence Day on August 15 in the Idgah Maidan complex. A few months ago, when the BBMP asked for the submission of documents related to the waqf, the dispute was settled.
