Nawab Malik Arrested: The Enforcement Directorate has arrested NCP leader and Maharashtra minister Nawab Malik in the Dawood Ibrahim money laundering case.


Nawab Malik Arrested : Maharashtra minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Nawab Malik has been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate. Enforcement Directorate is questioning NCP leader Nawab Malik in Dawood Ibrahim money laundering case since this morning. ED officials reached Nawab Malik's house at around 6 am. Where he was interrogated for a long time. The officers took Nawab Malik with him to the ED office at around 7.30 pm after interrogating him at home. Where he was being questioned at the ED office since 8:30 am. Later ED arrested him. 

PTI quoted officials as saying that the central agency had earlier questioned the state's minority affairs minister in connection with a money laundering probe involving the activities of the Mumbai underworld, fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim and his associates.

He said the agency is recording Malik's statement under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The agency's move comes after a fresh case was registered and raids conducted by it on February 15 in connection with underworld operations, alleged illegal property deals and hawala transactions in Mumbai.


After being arrested by the ED in the Dawood Ibrahim money laundering case, NCP leader Nawab Malik said, "Arrested, but don't be afraid. We will fight and win."

 

Here, the BJP retaliated and targeted the NCP leader. Senior BJP leader and former state finance minister Sudhir Mungantiwar told reporters that it was too early to call the ED probe "vendetta politics", though the details of the action were yet to be revealed.

What can we call the way Union Minister Narayan Rane was arrested a few months back. BJP MLA Nitesh Rane is also being harassed by the state officials. Malik is not a state level leader of NCP. If they have done something suspicious, it should be investigated. There should be no rush to label this as politics of vengeance.

Maharashtra BJP vice-president Chitra Wagh said that a few months back, former state CM Devendra Fadnavis had leveled serious allegations against Malik in connection with a dubious land deal. "It should be thoroughly probed and ED officials should be allowed to complete their probe," he said.
