Gujarat firm's troubles escalate after 2 workers die in sewage manhole
Bhopal: The Madhya
Pradesh government on Wednesday ordered registration of an FIR against a
Gujarat-based private firm after two employees died in a sewage manhole. This
firm was given the contract for the work of a sewage manhole here.
An investigation report by the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) states that the incident took place due to the lack of safety standards by the construction company. The BMC had submitted its investigation report to the State Development Department late on Tuesday night.
Following this, state Urban Development Minister Bhupendra
Singh has ordered registration of an FIR against officials of a Gujarat-based
private construction firm following the death of two of his employees,
including a minor, on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the minister has also ordered compensation of Rs 10 lakh each to the
next of kin of both and imposition of fine on the company.
It said that the minister has written to the Bhopal Police Commissioner asking
him to register an FIR against the officials of Ankita Construction Company engaged
in sewage project in the capital city of Madhya Pradesh.
The firm did not provide necessary protection to its employees for the works
related to sewage, which resulted in the incident.
Both the people have been identified as Engineer Deepak Kumar Singh (28), a
resident of Kushinagar in Uttar Pradesh and Bharat Singh (minor), a laborer
from Jhabua district of MP.
The incident came to light when a passerby saw a man lying motionless inside
the manhole. Police was immediately informed.
