Defense Ministry sent a proposal to Mazagon Dockyard and L&T for 'Stealth' submarines to be built in the country

Under the Requisset for Proposal, Mazagon Dockyard and private company L&T have to enter into an agreement with any one of the five big companies abroad to make submarines. The companies have been selected by the Ministry of Defense.


Make in India Stealth Submarines: The Ministry of Defense has sent RFP i.e. Requisset for Proposal to Mazagon Dockyard and Private Company, L&T for 06 indigenously built 'Stealth' submarines under Project 75(I) for the Indian Navy. Under the RFP, now these two shipyards have to enter into an agreement with any one of the five major foreign companies making submarines. These five companies have also been selected by the Ministry.

These five companies are Russia's Rosoboronexport, France's Naval Group-DCNS, Germany's Thyssenkrupp, Spain's Novantia and South Korea's Daewoo. The total cost of this project is about 40 thousand crores. After signing an agreement with a foreign company, both the Indian shipyards (Mazgaon and L&T) will submit their proposal to the Defense Ministry. After this, the ministry will decide which one shipper has to be given the responsibility of making these six submarines.

Amidst the growing presence of China in the Indian Ocean, the Indian Navy has a big challenge to increase its war fleet. The Chinese Navy currently has 75-80 submarines. China is preparing its ports and military-bases in Sri Lanka, Burma, Pakistan and Djibouti in the Indian Ocean, due to which the presence of Chinese naval warships has also increased near India's maritime borders. Apart from this, China is also building eight (08) submarines for Pakistan.

Whereas, at present, the Indian Navy has 12 conventional submarines and two nuclear submarines. One of these is the nuclear powered submarine, INS Chakra, which India has leased from Russia. According to an estimate, the Indian Navy needs at least 18 conventional (Killer Submarines ie SSK), 06 nuclear powered submarines (Nuclear Submarines ie SSN) and at least 04 nuclear-armed submarines (Nuclear Ballistic Missile Submarines ie SSBN). is.
