Taliban announces to form interim government, Mullah Hassan Akhund will be PM
New Delhi:The Taliban has announced the formation of a new government in
Afghanistan. The new government is the caretaker, that is, the interim
government. Mullah Hassan Akhund will take over as Prime Minister of the
Taliban government and Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar as Deputy Prime Minister.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid has announced the new Afghan government
and cabinet. According to this, Mullah Muhammad Hassan will be the head of
the new government, that is, the Prime Minister. Mulla Abdul Ghani will be
appointed as the Deputy Prime Minister. Apart from this, Mulla Yakub,
Defense Minister, Sirajuddin Haqqani will be appointed as Home Minister and
Mullah Amir Khan Muttaki will be appointed as Foreign Minister. Earlier
there was news that the Taliban could announce a new government on September
11, the day of the 9/11 attacks. However, now the Taliban has announced
the formation of the government today i.e. on Tuesday itself.
After more than three weeks of consultation and debate, the
Taliban found the Supreme Leader of the Government of Afghanistan. Mullah
Mohammad Hassan Akhund and he is the head of the Rehbari Shura located in
Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province of Pakistan. Rahbari Shura is
also known as Quetta Shura. Until now, it was believed that Haibatullah
Akhundzada, who himself has long been associated with the Quetta Shura, would
play the role of Supreme Leader in the Taliban government.
It is worth noting that Mulla Mohammad Hassan Akhund and
Mulla Haibatullah Akhundzada have been working with each other in Quetta Shura
for over 20 years. It is being told that it is Haibatullah Akhundzada who
forwarded the name of Mulla Hasan Akhund as Supreme Leader and the members of
Quetta Shura expressed their consent to this.
Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund is of Pakhtoon origin and
Kandahar. Hassan Akhund is a founding member of the Taliban. After
working for 20 years in the Quetta Shura, Mullah Hassan Akhund is looked upon
by the Taliban with great respect. More than a military commander, his
name is more as a religious leader. He studied in many madrasas of
Pakistan. Akhund is considered a low-profile leader. Mullah Hassan
Akhund has held high positions in the previous governments of Afghanistan.
When Mullah Mohammad Rabbani Akhund was the Prime Minister of
the country, at that time Mullah Hassan Akhund has held the responsibility of
first foreign minister and then deputy prime minister. He was also the
governor of Kandahar and vice-president of the Council of Ministers in 2001. According
to a UN list, Mullah Hassan Akhund is one of the 30 founding members of the
Taliban.
By the year 2001, he had become so senior that the Ministries
of Defence, Intelligence, Home, Culture and Communication and the Supreme Court
were among his responsibilities.
